![]() ![]() Her Honors Geometry teacher in the 8th grade at Blendon told the class he “is not allowed to teach them.” A similar vibe is clearly present in Honors Algebra 2. ![]() ![]() Whenever I hear political leaders and business leaders say we need more girls in math/STEM I have to laugh because our school district is making that as difficult/unappealing as possible as far as math is concerned. This infuriates me to no end, because I know this would not be the case if math were not “taught” in this ridiculous matter. Math was always her favorite subject until CPM started. My daughter is a freshman in Honors Algebra 2, so clearly she is not a remedial student by any means.This same teacher blames the students for not trying hard enough but does not answer their questions.My daughter’s Honors Algebra 2 teacher has on more than one occasion taught a concept wrong for an entire class period and then barely took the time to correct/re-teach the material the next day, leaving the students to fend for themselves.I am probably not able to attend the March 21st School Board meeting, but wanted to provide you with some of my experiences and thoughts. It is a failed experiment with students paying the price. I want to send you an enormous THANK YOU from a South parent who wants to see CPM eliminated from the school district. The Westerville South High School students recruiting more students to join their movement (#CPMmovement). Students and parents in Westerville, Ohio signed the petition to revise CPM and some actually went to the Westerville School Board meeting on Monday, March 21, 2016, and demanded CPM to be taken out from classrooms in the district. CPM tell students how to think in a particular way, which is unrealistic, and students got told their answer were wrong without a good explanation from the skilled teachers. CPM teaches the long way that takes you months, or even years to master the skill, wherein the tradition textbook-curriculum, you can master the skill once you get done with the classroom lesson. CPM teaches in a group work bases, most of the time in class would be group works, group tests. Teachers new to a course, but have previously attended Foundations for Implementation, can choose to engage in the course Content Modules in the Professional Learning Portal rather than attending the entire series of learning events again.CPM Math Controversial in Westerville, OHĬollege Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) has been around over 3 decades. of the Professional Learning Progression (PDF) describes all of the components of this learning event and the additional support available. Throughout this series educators will experience the mathematics, consider instructional practices, and learn about the classroom environment necessary for a successful implementation of CPM curriculum resources. Teachers and leaders will gain first-hand experience with CPM with emphasis on what they will be teaching. This learning experience will encourage teachers to adjust their instructional practices, expand their content knowledge, and challenge their beliefs about teaching and learning. This series contains multiple components and is grounded in multiple active experiences delivered over the first year. This professional learning is designed for teachers as they begin their implementation of CPM.
